Sir Bill and Queen DoylaA Poem by StanA poem for my brother-in-law who lives in Australia for his 60th birthday.Sir Bill and Queen Doyla By Stan Morris Now brave Sir Bill was a valiant knight; the protector of Queen
Doyla. The Queen was a very creative type (as long as she had a
Crayola.) The kingdom was threatened by a knavely gnome named Lib
Earl. A long haired hippo and oh so bulky, but his long hair had a
nice curl. Sir Bill slew a terrible, fearsome dragon whose name was
Terrible Briss Briss’ Bane was Bill’s sword and when swung it made a showy
hiss. But Earl heard it and followed Bill home from the Land of fair
California. Asked how found the knight’s home, Earl boasted “Ah, trailed
ya!” Sir Bill drew his sword and said to Earl, “Be gone from the
Queen’s land.” Earl snorted, lifted his palm, and said, “Ha! Talk to the
hand.” So the battle began, they fought through the day and on into
the next. And the next, and the next, and the next and the next, and
the next. Sir Bill stopped and groaned to himself, “I’m not quite as
young as I was.” Lib Earl dropped his sword, panting aloud, and held his
head; all abuzz. Sir Bill remarked to the loathsome knave, “Earl, thou hast a
stout heart.” Earl said, “I owed it to the low dose aspirin I steal
from Walmart.” Queen Doyla showed up bringing a tart, this to appease their
hunger. Eyes wide, sadly Earl muttered, “I really thought she’d
be younger.” © 2013 StanReviews
