Rocking Chair

Rocking Chair

A Poem by Stan
"

A reflection of my life

"
Rocking Chair
Once up on a time, upon on a quiet night
When the click of my clock sounded just for me
And my children in their bed slept neath summer night
Moon filled with soft hued beams
Like fleeting memories.

I paused to reflect on what kind of life I'd laid.
Should I have left myself behind?
And saintly played a grim charade?
Just looking back, I think I can not know
Whether my sins were by choice or by chance.
But I think I caused more sunshine than snow
When I passed the prayer and opted for the dance.

I smiled relaxing in my rocking chair that sagged,
Leaned back with my weed and took another drag.

It's really a rocking chair.......well written about it fella.....your words are quite dominant.....i can say by yu=r writing......one stanza that i did love is........

Just looking back, I think I can not know
Whether my sins were by choice or by chance.
But I think I caused more sunshine than snow
When I passed the prayer and opted for the dance..........

Rock gently, rock
forward and back
Savouring still
Moments & thrill
Time gently stand
Make the past grand!

I quite enjoyed the image of a comfortable and reliable, often revisited familiarity -
brought out by the sagging & relaxed rocking. To lean into that and float away with the plumes of weed; what other retrospection could there be?

Thanks ever so kindly for sharing. :-)

As I read your poem of rocking chair reflection.. I find myself reflecting as well, while reading this upon my own rocking chair... and searching for my lighter :)

I really like this one. It shows a common thought process of mine when thinking about the past. You can never truly know if your decisions were right, but if it lead to "sunshine", then you clearly could have made a worse path.
