and they came by sea in the 17th century. They had the highest of hopes as they
did come ashore the wild wood lands. And setting up housekeeping they were in
the best of spirits in the beginning. But in need of more supplies, eventually.
Some sailed back to England only to return to a great mystery! Roanoke had just
disappeared without a trace. Nothing to be found in the whole quiet place. And
to their puzzlement no one dared to even conceive what it could have meant. Because
Roanoke had just vanished like it was never there. Somebody said, “well the
whole blessed colony couldn’t have just disappeared into thin air!" But
they did feel something sinister had happened there! And they called it the devil
that had stolen Roanoke right out from under them never to be found again. © 2016 Bo Lanier |
