Love of the Dragon

Love of the Dragon

A Poem by Moonspeckle
"

Most people would assume that dragons are dangerous creatures, in which some are. Others, though, desire a human partner, and continually search for one.

"
The beating of the beasts wings,
spreading fear into every creature that sees.
Slowly, the beast circles a village.

The people cry in fear and prejudice,
only seeing the outside of this creature and calling it dangerous and evil.
People scatter in multiple directions,
the panic in the air is quite thick.

The beast lands with quite grace,
touching the ground as if it was a feather,
its beautiful purple wings folding slowly.
It looks into the eyes of the humans that see it,
fear mixed with hatred are the only things seen.

The beast looks around,
had it done anything wrong?
Anger and sorrow fill the beast,
these humans are all the same.

The beast notices one,
a child that was motionless.
They stare at each other,
neither of them moving, trying to preserve this moment.
Strings of bullets are shot at the beast, making it turn it's mighty head.
A loud roar explodes from the beast's throat.

The beast looks again,
the child is gone.
A pang of longing fills the beast,
seeing as the child was the only one to never flee.

Another shot is fired,
It's boom louder than others.
The dragon turned back,
ready to dodge the attack.
The beast is in shock,
the child is standing beside it.
The child pulls out a gun, shooting at the bomb.

A large explosion fills the area.
The child is knocked into the beast,
her breath knocked from her.
The beast grabs her carefully,
spreading it's wings and taking off.

The beast lands,
laying the girl on the ground.
The girl awakens,
sitting up and looking at the beast.
She smiles "You saved me.."
The beast smiles.
The girl slowly walks to the beast,
climbing onto its back.

The beast spreads its wings again,
this time with a companion.
You see, this beast has a name,
It is called a dragon.
These "Beasts" are never beasts,
they are simply creatures.
No one has the right to judge anyone or anything,
no one should be so shallow.
Yet most will,
and think nothing of it.
Yet this small action,
could easily start a reaction.
