Forget.

Forget.

A Poem by Lydia

I said,

“Take off your shoes and stay a while”

And he did.

My soul is filled with metaphors

Of self-description and I am trying to forget,

But memory and remembering

Are destined to follow us forever.

I said,

“I’ll never forget this spot on your chest”

And I didn’t.

I am a tree, bending under the

Weight that Atlas once held above his head;

I am gnarled and knotted

As the winds of my past sweep over me.

I said,

I said…

                I don’t remember what I said.

Is that what bothers me?
