Lament of the Linden.

Lament of the Linden.

A Poem by Lydia

The question, long since asked,

Resounds clearly in my mind.

A doll I was to you,

A hope you were to me.

Graveyards never speak,

Spirits never leave:

Is love alive?

I the linden tree,

Heart shaped leaves;

Emotions for all, or none, to see.

You the sparrow,

Insignificant to some,

But God knew the second you fell.

Love lives on

In the hearts of those

Who do not let go.

I hold on to you in death

Though never in life

Was I so blessed.

Your words are written

In stone upon my heart:

Beating forever,

As long as I treasure them,

They will stay.

Tombstones and urns,

A reminder of the road ahead.

You go before me,

Years turn in my world,

Never again in yours.

I will follow you one day.

For though love may be alive,

Alas, my sparrow has fallen,

And I will shed my leaves.
