On Sadness, In Love.

On Sadness, In Love.

A Poem by Lydia

Exemplifications of sorrow sully the mirror
And drown the happiness that was once
So abundant and profuse.
I’d like to think I write like him,
But who am I fooling?
Not the fools, and certainly not myself,
Not that I thought I could accomplish anything.
How true that love is not lost,
Yet on sadness, in love
Is such a different story -
A secret perspective that only those
With bad luck and worse karma
Have the opportunity to view with a blind eye.
Hope is a cause that is forever lost,
Once accomplished, and,
Once accomplished, begins again.
Why must life be cyclical, never ending,
The father murdered by the son
And the ocean chasing the shore.
Another door has closed as
I wait for the next to open.
What is ahead is what matters,
Not what has fallen behind.
The sky is different here,
And the drywall cracked,
Like my sanity’s mask
Yet I do not regret,
Not yet, not yet.
Life encompasses me,
Love does not abandon,
And laughter still abides within me,
As it always has.
I am blue with a black tongue
And a scarlet letter for sadness
Which knows no end, for it has been
Since before the beginning.
The branches of the tree reach for me
And I allow myself to be embraced;
I turn my face back to the sun,
Back to the beauty that I know
Must be somewhere in the world,
If we try enough to find it.
I will not let eternal darkness take me,
For on sadness, in love,
Sadness disintegrates,
And love truly conquers all.
