One Night.

One Night.

A Poem by Lydia

Darkness falls,

And I call.

You answer

And we argue.

I criticize.

You apologize,

Crawling

Through the window

Of my upstairs bedroom,

Careful not to wake the stars.

The moon shines,

The curtains rustle,

Finally, I smile.

Lips touch.

Passion, released.

Lovers with young bodies,

With old souls. You take

Your shoes off.

We take everything off.

The weight of the world

Rests on someone else’s

Shoulders for tonight

Belongs to you and me.

Hands stray across

Smooth skin and

Eyes wander as

Mouths whisper

The things that

Lovers say.

I wish you’d stay,

I speak it out,

And you agree,

Holding me tight,

Closer than ever.

I breathe you

Deep, inside of me.

You linger there,

And then let go,

Eyes telling

What the other

Wants to know.

So I stand at the

Window, watching

You shimmy down

The scaffolding

As the sky lightens

East of my heart

In your hands

Below.

I turn my face

To the sky,

I cry,

I cry.

The stars fade,

The moon hides

Her face away,

And a deeper

Darkness falls

Upon my

Frailty.
