Sunrise Sets.A Poem by Lydia
Sunrise over the highway As my eyes follow the telephone lines. Clouds are breaking and The sun is almost peeking Past the leafless trees. Dulled colors streak across the morning, Iridescent blues and grays Fill the sky inside my mind. Oh, what a sight to see: I can’t believe I'm the one Who’s left you behind. My hands on the wheel Are your hands on my heart. But my foot on the gas Won’t stray back to the break. I’m driving on the left As life passes me by on the right. The rearview, it’s begging me But I already know what it is That I’ve left behind… The birds fly south to fly north first There’s no one to turn to, No sailors to warn: There’s no blood in the sky, Only tears in my eyes. I should look back to see the sun rise But all I can see is the look in your eyes As I let your hand go and mumbled goodbye. The mountains, they’re waiting, The road, well it’s calling my name. Looking ahead, the sunset of something sweet; It’s the end of what love used to be. © 2008 LydiaReviews
