Charybdis

Charybdis

A Poem by Lydia

I, like chaos, cannot control myself
Stagnant for so long
and suddenly
I am the swell of tides
against every rocky shore
and in every fabled storm
Within the hum of the water
collapsing inwards
I lose myself
Drowning under the current
observing me,
observing the sea,
fighting ourselves
Time is slow motion
my heart and the
second-hand
are one
Everything echoes
I think, things must change
if I want to survive

To me, I get the sense of being swept away, tides, time, emotion... it doesn't matter, the drowning is the same. I often feel this way about writing, like I have to get it out or I'll go down with it. As always, I appreciate your consistent, tight metaphor. I think that constant pull to change is what keeps us building on what we have already made. Adapt or get carried away.
