Palpable

A Poem by Lydia

Anger is pain
pretending to be
powerful
My heart flutters
with rage
and I lose myself
My voice
climbing
cracks
I crumble
Everything hurts
No one understands
I think
maybe if I could just
show you
maybe if I could just
be anything else
but trapped
in between the
fluttering
like eyes
darting during REM cycles
I remain
seeing things that aren't there

My heart flutters /with rage

Your entire piece shows consistent wisdom and intensity, while maintaining a humble tone of voice. That takes real skill. Beautifully explained, this lesson about anger, pain, individual experience, collective universality, saving the world, etc., etc. No, seriously. Wonderfully done.:):)

"Anger is pain / pretending to be / powerful..." that might be one of the most impactful openings I've ever read. That is a universal truth, but you state it so bare. The alliteration helps punch it up quite a bit too. I got that sense of frustration, trying to explain but not having anything but the anger to work with. "I remain / seeing things that aren't there..." I often feel that way too, once things get spun up they just want to continue even when the targets have been removed. Damn good piece, Lydia. Damn good.
