Labor

Labor

A Poem by Lydia

Growing pains are
not for the faint of heart

I am birthing myself, my soul
In a way my mother never could
I am laboring
For my own crowning
I will coronate myself
Free of the chains
Of the patriarch
Free of the burden
Of your desires
I will rule over my own

I breathe in
I push

I breathe in the scent of
the morning dew on
the honeysuckle vine
I push the bad thoughts
away from my mind

I breathe in
and I push

I inhale the pain and
the turmoil and the weight
of the world Atlas left us
I push on the sky
like I have the strength
of a thousand titans
