Adulation

Adulation

A Poem by Lydia

I would let you worship me
whichever way you'd like
but you only seem to call
when I am sleeping

Hours spent waiting for a word --
what are the chances
of a chance meeting
these days?

How I wish, like some myth
you could pour yourself like sand
through the keyhole of this door
that separates me from you

You tenderly pick yourself up off the floor
I have seen it done a thousand times before --
in all my dreaming
I see only your face

Strike me like lightning
not with the violence of your fist
but with the electric shock
of your skin on mine

I will surrender to this moment
ad infinitum

Let the sandman visit me no more
let my eyes be pried open to wait for the moment
when you and I can meet again

I will let you worship me
you have made your wishes known
and I will fulfill every one of them
if only I'm not sleeping
