Chapter Six : Walking Home IA Chapter by Totoro-SamaMia gets to know how Ace just a little better. The sky was already beginning to speckle and glitter with stars as the two stood there in front of the gate, Ace just grinning to himself as Mia furrowed her brows at him. She was already late enough. Now Mia had to clearly tell him once more that she didn't want his company. What a bother. An exasperated sigh escaped from pale lips as she glanced up at the building, wondering why the nurse didn't save Mia the trouble of stalling him just a while longer. Ah . . the building itself already seemed dark as traces of light faded from the glass windows. She really did have to get going. Soon, it would get cold . . and she always preferred being in work before that happened. Mia didn't bring a sweater. The shadows were already leaving the ground. It was time to settle this matter with Ace. His persistence was admirable . . . yet, right now, it was uncalled for. Mia looked up at him, straight in the eyes. What was this silence? "I said I don't want you to follow me. Go away." "Nope!" Mia raised a brow in irritation. Nope? What was that response?! That was way too vague, and he even said it with such a childish grin, like a baby who didn't want to follow parent's instruction! That man . . . He didn't even state why, or even try to convince her to keep him there! Just . . a one letter answer. Was that on purpose? And again . . what was with that grin on his face?! Even after being straightforwardly rejected, there was still that glimmer of confidence shining as brightly in Ace's eyes as the stars that were beginning to peek out of the sky above them. Just that one letter answer. And, what's worse was that he didn't even say any more than that! Mia opened her mouth to speak once more, but was cut off when she finally got more than just a short word. "Yep. Nope! I can't leave you to walk home alone at night! It's dangerous!" He chuckled a little, scratching the back of his head as he received Mia's irritated stare. "Don't be so hostile! I promise I'm not a perv or anything." Ace smiled brightly after that, believing that what he said was normal, and not suspicious at all. What kind of person would say that they weren't a "pervert"? He was really an idiot. She didn't think that he was at first, but with him bringing it up---ugh. Why explain it now?! She hung her head down in utter defeat. Why explain it now. Compared to the many others out there, he was nothing but a babe. She knew all too well about such dangerous perverts. So much that sometimes . . . Sara wondered why she had to know in the first place. Ah. What to do now. It was already dark. Ace was just grinning for an answer in the corner of her eye. Would it be much more beneficial to take him up on his offer? It would make her late . . since Mia would have to stop by her house before making her way to the Hostess Club . . yet . . why bother. She was already late, anyway. The brunette looked up at Ace, whose eyes were glinting with anticipation, and with a "less-than-willing-to-agree" look plastered on her face, Mia sighed. Ah, she's been doing that a lot lately, hasn't she? "Fine. I'll walk with you." If there hadn't been a built-in flashlight inside one's head before, there was one in existence now. Mia would have sworn that Ace's eyes began glowing with delight at the sound of her deflated agreement in the dark that had slowly come over . . so much that she began to envy the kind of happiness that came from the glow, the kind of happiness he gained from such a trivial thing. Mia wanted to sigh, but only omitted that part as she crossed her arms and glanced over to the side, noticing a hand extended out for her to take. She glanced down at the hand, and then up at Ace who had been waiting for her to take it. "Shall we?" Mia glanced over at the hand in suspicion. Ace glanced at his own hand as well before pulling it away suddenly, using that same hand to scratch the back of his head. What was that about? The young red-head began to laugh nervously. "Ah. Sorry, it's just that all the girls I usually escort always ask for a hand . . so I wonder if you wanted to . . yeah . . guess not." In response, Mia only turned around and began to walk ahead, Ace quickly noticing the click of her heel as she turned, and beginning to walk quickly so that he found himself side by side with Mia. Ah. There was quite the height difference between them. She was much too short. It was rather funny a detail . . and he would bring it up . . . if there wasn't such a deafening silence that occupied the space. The whole time, Ace only kept to himself with his hands in his pockets, glancing down at the girl to make sure she didn't look too tired. Mia-Sara only took in her surroundings. Ah . . the scenery was gorgeous at this time. The blanket of sky above them was littered with glittering stars, all competing to see which glittered the most . . while others kept to themselves in small twinkles. The road below them was dark, but as they made their way on that same path leading to the bridge, the river right below the small hill beside them served as a mirror . . no, not a mirror . . a still, drifting blanket of reflected stars. It was just so beautiful . . that Mia had to stop and watch as she rushed over to stand at the edge of the hillside. Amazing! It was simply so nice just to stand there . . just to gaze at the blur of city red, yellow--even blue circles flash below the arch of dark blue . . . peeking from the dull blocks of city building structures! Some of the lights even reflected from the glass windows! So that was what they were used for! Simply ingenious! Ruby eyes sparkled with those same illuminations as they imprinted themselves in her memory. She was quite a distance from the city (a small bridge's distance from it), so the murmur of cars moving and honking only served as a soft background hum for the view. It was just so relaxing. Who knew that walking home at night served to be such an experience! She never really found herself walking home like this . . so . . yeah! Ace watched behind as he smiled, admiring the entranced face she put on, even though he could only barely sneak a glance when she turned her head to follow the river. His hands were still in his pockets before he pulled one out to check the time, wondering how long she would take. Nah. It didn't matter. Ace liked watching Mia enjoy herself. He waited until she began to walk ahead (her eyes still stuck to the view) before speaking. "You look pretty when you smile."
