Flash ForwardA Story by Tara♥Undefined♥The whooshing sounds of the machine roared in my ea as I was thrown across the tiny room of the shuttle. My back and head throbbed from hitting the steel walls of inside the machine. In aching terror I realized that I had stopped moving. "What have I done?" I asked myself aloud. I feared what I would see if I were to open the brass door of this contraption, so I curled up in a ball to rest. Where was I? I fell asleep quickly after arriving at wherever I was and dreamt. Recalling all the events from just hours before.
It was a sunny day in April and I was at a museum. Sci-fi type museum that displayed inventions to assist man-kind. Of course, none of them could really work. Just failed experiments. I awoke in tears remembering my foolishness. I had found the time machine and beig the smart alic I was, tried to fix it up. Well, I did. I had climbed inside that broken down 1860's model of a time machine and started up the controls. I was joking around but it started making that that roaring noise and took over. That was all I could remember.
I decided to stand strong. Wiping the salty tears from my eyes I stumbled over to the door. *ka-chink* came the sound of the rusty brass against the steel as the door slid open. What I saw as my eyes adjusted to the dim light from outside was terrifying. In awe-struck horror I limped out into the vast darkness. The dusty plains before my eyes were blowing across the deserted lands for as far as I could see. Lumps of sand were piled up all around me. The sand was moving slowly but clearly moving. I bent down to see what was under the sand stupidly. I mean, it could've been just about anything, but it wasn't.
As I uncovered each pale body I saw no particular faced. They all looked the same. Pale and perfect, terrifying and beautiful. I saw how each one had the same expression. All except one. There was but one body still moving on its own still alive. I ran to it and brushed the sand from his eyes and lips. He spoke softly and only one word, but his memory still lingers on in my mind to this day.
"Sacramento." was his last word. As the only living being left on the earth passed away and became one more lifeless perfect body in the sand, I understood. Somehow I knew what he meant. H had been waiting for me. I flashed back to the photo of the inventor of the time machine. Impossible, but all these faces looked just like him. Every last one. Sacramento was where this would start. Where this world would begin to turn into nothing but death and destruction.
What a terrible fate. I knew what to do. Nothing. I could do nothing and I knew it. I got back in the contraption that forced me to view this sad ending of our world and made it take me back to where I belonged. I had time to live. that place I had seen was only a harsh glimpse of the year 2210. I know now more than ever how man's machines kill us.
Now that the lifespan has increased tremendously and I am only one year away from the end of this world, but I've had a good day and I know that i will be proud and strong as I die. I won't fight back. Just let the world's hatred consume me, so I may finally be at peace. Not even death can kill my spirit. I have seen far enough of this world and I need no more sight. We will all stand proud as we are destroyed. At last. © 2010 Tara♥Undefined♥Author's Note
