When

When

A Poem by monglebeans

When you stare at the mirror too long and the image begins to warp,
When your meal slowly becomes stale and plastic bite after bite,
When you turn off the music and its echoes call for you afterwards,
When you think too much and forget how to blink or breathe,
When you write for too long and your hand moves on its own,
When you get bored from reading Iine after line,
When Theseus becomes tired and searches for a new ship,
When too many join in and it is no longer any fun,
When you slowly realise this world is wrong but a dream,
When you repeat the same word over and over until it starts to sound wrong,

You realise the one you had loved is now somebody else.

Too much of a good thing? Perhaps? We all change with time and circumstance; perhaps changing together or on parallel trajectories could keep us together? Much food for thought here 🙏🏻🕊
