Strawberry

Strawberry

A Poem by Monday Parker

They say a little girl will steal her mother’s beauty while developing

I feel that with every sideways glance in the mirror

This drawn tired look that blankets my face

The grayish pink color of my skin

Pooka dotted with angry red blemishes

My eyes dull with exhaustion

And all of that is ok with me

Grow, little one, grow

Steal my looks

My energy

My sleep

Use my body to take your nurturance

Take everything you need

My little strawberry

Blossom and thrive inside

I will keep you safe and warm

I welcome you to take what you need to

Grow safe

Grow healthy

My little strawberry.

Aww... this was sweet as a strawberry. We really do sacrifice everything for our children, including our health and sleep. Insanity is hereditary, we get it from our kids. ;)

I only just heard a very strange fact about mothers on an episode of QI, a quiz show with comedians as guests in the UK, that mothers not only feed their young, but feed their stomach bacteria too, with something that has no nutritional value at all to the child, but makes babies gut very happy indeed.
I only mention that to show that they are always giving, without thanks or asking for it.
Where would we be without mum's?
I have never heard a child being called my Little strawberry, but will think of them as just that from now on 😊
