Carnival Games

Carnival Games

A Poem by Monday Parker

You have played

Your heartbreak Carnival games with me

For two weeks now

Even though- I am third in line for your

Emotional rollercoaster.

I got my turn

Stood…and waited

Watching in horror as the women fall from your

Trapeze

Yet…I walked right up when it was my turn

And quickly fell

Similar to ones before.

The seats still warm from their presence.

I took one ride on your turbulent merry-go-round

Learning quickly

This is not my circus

Not my theme park

I am escaping now

Before I become one of your sideshows.
