Jim Morrison/ The lizard king

Jim Morrison/ The lizard king

A Poem by Monday Parker

He writes his words

With 1000 pounds of escape

Heavy

Weighed

Screams insanities while

Riding the snake

Convulsing as seizures

Chomping on the bit

Frothing

Wild in his brown

Windows

Dark inner demons

Smiling at depression

Howling at the sun

Inching the healthy fragments of skin

On to dust on his microphone

Not a vocalist

But a poet

Medium to the dark and light

May be nothing more

Than a voice to speak with

Eyes to watch from

Existence to invade

Influential legend

Once walked among us

Blessings us with his beauty

Shaking us with his tremor

With his roar

Making flames of my soul with his words

Our shaman king.

I had never heard of Jim Morrison before reading this poem. I had to actually do a Google search to learn more about him. This poem was intriguing that at really peaked my curiosity. You chose some very interesting words as a tribute to this musical artist. I think you did a great job here.

I think of jim and my mind goes to the haunting song riders on the storm such raw graphic lyrics that pull at your psyche the man was surely a poet clearly had his own demons listen to each word of that song and tell me what you think genius music my thought

He certainly didn't have the best vocals but he knew how to use his and he had that charisma that was undeniable... a very worthy tribute.

Well, Jim was many things to many people...mostly he was strung out. I mean a guy who writes lyrics like, " mother, father,...I want to KILL you!" doesn't have all his eggs in one basket if one asks me...or at least has some seriously unresolved parenting issues. lol I've never been a big Doors fan...favorite Doors song was "People Are Strange" and Jim certainly was. This is a nice tribute... though considering his drug abuse and subsequent heroin/cocaine overdose at 27 years old, I'd think it safe to say he didn't "smile" at his depression all the time. Just my thoughts.

I was partying big time with a former buddy one time over twenty five years ago who talked about Jim Morrison one night. This guy was an expert on Morrison. He summed up by saying, "Jim Morrison was a wierd dude!"
