Reaching

Reaching

A Poem by Monday Parker

Loneliness has taken its toll on me

The hunger for human touch

Leaving me salivating

Grappling at anyone’s feet

Reaching

Seeking

Into places I know aren’t right

But the nights are so long

Frosting the windows of my soul

Leave me urging for something

For anyone to

Take the sting from my ivory flesh

Chasing emotions that only feel forced

When I finally grasp on to them

Hurting me more than the loneliness

The bright hours of morning

Have me wallowing in regret for my

 Desperate actions for affection.

Embarrassed by my reaching fingers.

By my sloppy words

And eager thoughts.
