ShirtsA Poem by MomoNot dangling Kicking High above in the rafters The ledge near the cave ceiling Kicking Calcite spikes pointed in my direction Labelled with disasters Pain. Rage. Abandonment. Loneliness The rope behind me tempts me Knotted into insanity To cross where the bridge broke Easier to let go Less easy to grab the rope But harder than ever to fight To climb up With backs turned The t-shirts read Betrayal. Jealousy. Pain. Distress. Loneliness. No hand to reach for Just the shirts Drifting away. But Hope returns A light in the dark The light of the righteous The light of the Book The light of eternity Closer still Two lights distinguishable One a bright calming white from ahead Another of orange and red below No longer waiting For the invisible man to reach out a hand A smile to the white And I become lighter A struggle To test my might Clambering and panting Heaving and sighing I lift my body to the waist Betrayal turns around And shows another face False honesty He reaches out his hand I reach back but stop midway The hardest part is done I turn my back on the shirts and sit on the ledge My feet Dangling Over the ledge Looking down at the flames enveloping my fears Jealousy and pain turn to face me But on my shirt Scrawled on the back in sweat Loner On the sleeves Written in dirt Confidence. Strength The white light enveloping me. Raising my spirit To move to new heights Of my own control © 2018 MomoReviews
