The One

The One

A Poem by K. C. Wells
"

There are a few things that my parents taught me about love that I've found to be true. "You'll know when you find the one person that you're meant to be with forever." "You shouldn't marry someone because you can live with them, you should

"

When I was young I was told
I'd know when I found "the One".
For years I looked and worried
That love had passed me by
When I had not been looking,
Silently creeping by.
My heart long lay in shadow
Waiting for a glimpse of the sun.

Many men passed me by
Without even a glance.
With too many more I was to shy,
To afraid to dance.
Then you came along
And took me by surprise.

Still I did not dare to trust
For I had been hurt before.
Afraid that I would be abandoned,
Left on some long forgotten shore.
Even then you stood beside me
Holding tightly to my hand.
Refusing to let me run away
Across time's beaches of white sand.

Then one day I looked at you
In the early morning light.
And realized I didn't know what I'd do
Without you in my life.
The lost part of my heart,
The half that made me whole,
The One to share my days with
And with whom to grow old.

When I wasn't looking you found me,
The One love of my life.
My best friend, my confidant,
You gave my heart wings
Every day that I'm with you
My heart joyfully sings.
All of this and more is why
I chose to be your wife.

As the days have came and gone
And time has went past.
A smile grows inside my heart 'cause
True love will hold fast.
And at the end of the day
I look at you and smile.
Cause time and time again
You make my life worthwhile.

Eternally connected
Two parts of a whole,
Bonded permanently
From the center of our souls.

a wonderful symphony in the name of love. it affirms your talent as poetess of dreams. luv it.

Many men passed me by
Without even a glance.
With too many more I was to shy,
To afraid to dance.
Then you came along
And took me by surprise. -------we are taught to be careful and not offering, we females. we are our sum of genes and experiences.

A truly accessible and inspiring poem - I can feel the love, joy, and satisfaction in your marriage just brimming off the words.

The lost part of my heart,
The half that made me whole,
The One to share my days with
And with whom to grow old. This is a little nugget. Your poem is heartfelt and touching. Nice to see marriage in a good light. From a twenty year veteran and still happy. Good for you too.

Thanks it did make more sense to put that stanza at the end. The last few stanzas weren't in my original plan, but the piece wrote itself.. hehe

Thank you for sharing this. You make your vision of what love is alive on the page. I've read a couple of times now and the second to last stanza seems out of place to me, not out of place as in "doesn't belong here in this work" but perhaps moved to the very end? Just a thought. Good read, good write!
