Kitty

Kitty

I found Kitty dead today

She didn’t live to enjoy

The flowers in May

She’s been gone awhile

And I didn’t even miss her

I was too wrapped up

In living life

To even realize she was gone

Jacob brought her

Home to me

Paralyzed and unhealthy

I nursed her back to health

And helped her learn

To walk again

She became friendly

Even though scared

A Siamese was she

With an exquisite face

I’ll never see her again

I know she’s dead

I can still see where she lay

She died alone

Will she ever forgive

My selfishness

I cared with unending love

Yet I feel so guilty

For not being there

When she really needed me

Author's Note

Dream Fairy
I was feeding on the guilt of not having known the moment she died rather than focusing on the fact that I had given her months of love when she could have died in fear and pain.
