Where Do We Stand

Where Do We Stand

A Poem by Dream Fairy
"

1 January 1989

"

There are many times

When I wish I knew

Just exactly what

I’m expected to do

I’m so unsure

Of what I’m feeling

It doesn’t help

To be pushed

I’m not accusing

You of anything

Or anyone else

For that matter

I love spending time

With you

Just being

Your friend

At times

You give me looks

That cause me

To go weak in the knees

Penetrating looks

Hooded yet open

Inviting yet restrictive

I wish I could respond

I know not how

A relationship

Rather

The idea of one

Terrifies me

Whatever you want

I’ll let you have

Just don’t

Break my heart

With you

It feels like

So much more

Than what has come before

More than I’m ready for

More than I can handle

Yet

I’m sorry my friend

I would still choose you

Above all others

Interesting read, nice to see another poet from the Denver area here, ever make it down to the Mercury Cafe to read your stuff? If you do that I host an open mic at an Englewood Coffee shop if you are game to come play.
