Karma's sense of humor

Traveling is absolutely horrible when you're forced to do it, Jason was having a horrible time only to be joined by a fellow traveler who somehow made things worse

"

Jason wasn’t particularly happy; this was mostly because he had to several things he didn’t enjoy, such as getting out of bed. That and the fact that he had to travel to a foreign country made John very unhappy indeed.

Traveling was such a nuisance and Jason had to do it far too often for his liking. He would never be at peace when he was moving around too much or moving at all. Of course the only time he was ever at peace was in the shower, or in bed, and right now he was in neither. He instead was sitting alone in a rather battered looking compartment on a train. And he was hungry. Very very hungry.

He had traveled quite a lot over the years and he considered himself a sort of traveling veteran at this point, but this time he had made a mistake only a traveling novice or rookie would make--he forgot to bring a snack.

He was sitting alone in a shabby looking train compartment, feeling sorry for himself when the cabin door opened. A blonde female head popped inside and said “empty seats, yes?” In an unmistakable Italian accent.

“Huh- what..oh yeah there are a couple of empty seats here”, said Jason gesturing towards the entire empty cabin.”

Jason was immediately smitten by this foreign woman so naturally he tried to think of something clever to say but all he could think of was food.  The cabin was very quiet until his new companion decided to unpack her lunch. It was a shabbily packed bunch of sandwiches that looked like they had been put together in a fast moving race car by a mentally challenged octopus, but he stared at the sandwiches none the less.

She must have noticed his drooling and instead of thinking of Jason as some strange old man who had no control of body fluids she offered him one of her sandwiches. Instead of thanking her and devouring the entire sandwich in one bite like he had planned, he found himself politely declining.

“Damn I’m an idiot” he thought to himself.

“No no you take, travelers karma.” She said to him.

Hearing the woman insisting he gracefully lunged at the sandwich and devoured it in one bite as the woman stared, slightly disgusted. He tried to apologize for his bad manners but unfortunately for everyone present, his mouth was full as he did this. So instead of the polite apology that he had planned out in his head, he ended up sounding like a troll choking on a running blender. The woman still disgusted, stayed silent.

The horribly awkward silence was broken by a loud screeching noise that came from outside. This noise was not coming from a giant wounded cat as Jason suspected but was in fact the sound of the train slowing down and eventually coming to a complete stop.

“My stop”, said the woman as she got up and headed towards the compartment door, she slid it open threw him a wave and walked right out of his life. .

Only a few minutes passed when he heard a loud BANG!!! Followed by a groan. Being very curious, he peeked outside only to see an old man relaxing on the ground with a large suitcase, on closer inspection Jason found out that the old man had fallen trying to lift his suitcase and was in a bit of pain. Keeping traveler’s karma in mind he decided to help. He pulled the old man to his feet and helped him to the train platform. The old man who later introduced himself as Stan, was nothing but grateful and decided to show this thanking Jason several times while enthusiastically shaking his hand with a surprising amount of force for an old man. Jason who was too concerned about being polite and the well being of his arm completely forgot that the train was about to leave.

For the first time in weeks he felt happy again. He enjoyed this unfamiliar sensation for a bit, but was interrupted by the sound of the trains whistle, the blasted machine had started moving again and before he could catch up to it, the train sped out of sight.

This turn of events did not sit well with Jason; he let out all the frustration that had been building up inside him since the start of this trip. He screamed at the birds flying above him and yelled obscenities at the mail box next to the platform until he got tired. Then he kicked it. He sat down on the nearest bench with his head in his hands and pain all over his left foot.”Humph so much travelers karma” he thought. Now he would never get to the docks in time. The Titanic would sail without him.

The end is just like wooooow, he has no idea, and that makes me kinda excited! And bringing a snack is KEY, I take food with the me even when I'm already going to be served food. Poor Jason, should've brought along some cinnamon toast crunch. This was different, I wish there was more!

I like it! Sometimes the things that seem so awful actually end up working in your favour. i love the idea though I think this needs a bot of work. I would build up the anticipation of what travelling on the Titanic would mean for him without mentioning it to the end- a chance for a historic journey, a new life, new job, etc. Make it seem like this is a terrible thing that he lost then your last line has so much more impact.

Would you mind reviewing for me? I resubmitted my work as 'The Crash'. It is the one that is part of a book rather than a stand-alone chapter? Cheers
