Skyscraper

A Poem by Molly D

Think of me now as Earth:
here to give you warmth and shelter,
revolving at my core to bring you life
with wet, fertile soil to take your roots.

Unhappy with the home I offer,
you wrench from me the bones
to create marble-skinned towers,
reaching arrogantly into my sky.

Your monuments stand tall and
defiant in the face of nature,
creating unnatural new canyons
in a testament to your will.

Stealing what I'd gladly give,

you erect false idols to prove

there are no laws to govern you

set forth by woman, land or time.

For these crimes I will tremble and split,
opening up to swallow you whole,
reclaiming each of my elements
so you may try to cultivate me again.

Very well thought out. This is a poem that grabbed my heart immediately and would not let go. This is the style I like, unrelenting...and it creates resonances that echo. A+++!

Wow, what a great poem. I was glued to my screen and my eyes were anticipating the next word. I loved how you wrote this from mother earths point of view. You have so much truth in this poem, just great!

Such a vivid write, moving as metaphor with a depth of philosophical wonder. You offer a world of life, of love, of lingering... So well done!
