Bungee Jumper

Bungee Jumper

A Poem by Molly D

Even if I wanted to make the decision to walk away,

to move on,
to start over,
to make new promises,
I know I never could;

it is you to whom I belong.

Like being tethered,

everything comes back to you.

Subservient, I submit,

and when I try to jump the cable in my chest wretches me back with a vengence.

Frustrating as the ache may be ---

the bruises left in my chest from all the tugging ---

I am a bungee jumper,

grateful for the rope you keep in my body

that will not allow me to wander too far from you

or fall permanently from the heights I climb.

i love the way you use this metaphor. very creative! bungee jumping really does tie in well with relationships. the risk, the thrill, the attachments, the ups and downs (ok that was a little cheesy on my part). hah.

yeah i could really get into this poem.

there was one thing that really tripped me up

"my stomach is fills with too many butterflies at his touch," - "my stomach FILLS with too many..."

other than that it flowed pretty well.

This is such an interesting read-I love the comparison of the bonds shared to the bungee jumper-it's refreshing and the tone is wistful and the meter and repetition in the third stanza makes my emotions feel like they are attached to a tether!
Exhilarating read, thank you!

This is a well balanced free verse. I think you have painted a vivid picture and made your point easy to grasp but not trite at all. I know that is not as easy as some think too. I like how the whole of it is a metaphor, very powerful indeed.

Great work.

I know that feeling; someone having that kind of hold on you. It's a very catch 22 if I do say so myself.
You love it, but at the same time it may not be healthy for you.
But the speaker doesn't seem to mind that this may be a potentially unhealthy bond and that's what makes it so relatable, because I bet we've all been there at sometime with someone.

Well-written poem, I like the concept you used for this romance, you portrayed it flawlessly.
