Midnight Blue, like the crayon.

Midnight Blue, like the crayon.

A Poem by Molly D

It's well past 3 a.m. and

I haven't gone to bed early,

like I had promised myself.

Instead, I'm up,

writing poetry,

thinking of ways to stop using

"I, myself," and "me" so much in one line.

When it's late, quiet and cold like this,

I end up contemplating all of my partners;

their hair,

their hands,

their lips,

their laughs,

and what it is about them

that makes my skin crawl.

Usually I conclude that it's me,

not them,

that I loathe so much,

until I remember that I'm great,

funny, smart, and pretty,

and it's probably just because I have divorced parents

that I'm so fucked up.

Then I cry, and eat,

and watch reality tv,

and wait for someone to text my phone.

They don't, and I feel friendless,

so I compulsively check my online profiles

and chat with acquaintences I usually don't think of.

Then, I remember:

Oh, right. I'm always this f*****g moody at night.

This is awesome. Love the title.

The emotion that has been commented on previously is here in the right balance--it has an edge to it, but it doesn't veer off into the saccharrine or weepy, hand-wringing self pity. The piece, as a whole, reads smoothly and is nicely constructed. The third stanza struck me as a bit too prose-y; I think you could simply dispense with it altogether, and go straight to the final two lines. Very nicely executed piece of work.

"Then, I remember:

Amazing.
:]
I am so glad I stumbled across you're poetry tonight.
You're voice rings clear as if coming from my own writer's-blocked brain.

So much truth. Your first line had me hooked. So much emotion without having to use such thick language. Raw, indeed. I like.

I really like this poem. The way it's written caught my attention: not in any form, just there. Just a string of thoughts you wrote down. I enjoyed it a lot. And I think the title fits it well. Awesome work :)

The very same way at times.
Divorced parents as well.
I can also relate to this. Maybe that's why I like you so much. I don't really like meeting new people at all, despite my charasmatic nature with them when I do, but I like you Molly! hahaha

I like the way the poem reads like a stream of thoughts. Uncut. Raw. And real. You don't get that very often because most of the time it's prettied up and candy coated. This poem seems very real and I sense many can probably relate to it pretty easily, myself included. Nights are when memories, problems, and decisions that were suspended all throughout the day by work, school, and keeping busy befall on us all like a weight. great job.

I like how the first verse read; you had some really good phrasing there. Reads like you're really getting a lot of feeling out here in this poem. If you were ever to go back and edit this poem, maybe use some imagery to convey your feelings instead of coming right out and saying it. Or at least add some imagery to compliment your feelings and have them both in there.

Your honesty and vivid voice make this piece simply amazing... It so perfectly describes patterns of thought that so often haunt us or drive us on, mocking us in the midnight hour... You're incredible Molly... :)

I liked reading your poem. However, remember you're not the f'ked up one, your divorced parents f'ked up, you're just trying to come to terms with this and not make the mistakes they did.
Thanks for sharing. Good study of after midnight when we let it all hang down!
