Inked

Inked

A Poem by Molly D

pierce my porcelain,
over and over again
waking the pain beneath
waiting to be illustrated.

scroll on me
the virtues of a religion
that have brought mothers before me
to peace and happiness.

brand me with ink
darker than blood,
deeper than time allows
on the surface of my body.

let me wake each day
with a reminder of what grounds me
and keeps me sane,

injure what protects me
only to heal wiser.

the first line of this was perfect and unique, "pierce my porcelain"
you make it sound like true art.
my parents always said that i was their masterpiece and that getting inked was like scribbling on it.
you bring a new light to the beauty of it.
i love it!

"deeper than time allows" - i think this concept is the one i'm most impressed by. a beautiful sentiment. it's too easy to say "permanent" or "forever". this goes farther and adds a sacredness that i think most tattooed people come away with.

i myself don't have any tatoos yet. but my fiance has 6. she wants more. lol.

i also love how the poem ends. powerful.

Most people doen't think of the bod mod community as a religion and I'm super glad you mentioned it in this piece. Lovely descriptions! Its awesome ^^

I like how you portray the human body as a canvas, rather than just writing on paper we are actually writing about ourselves in some way and so in effect we are writing upon ourselves. I think that sort of writing is the best as it lives with you personally. I love 'scroll on me the virtues of a religion', the word religion is deliberately vague and can mean any sort of religion personal to whoever is writing upon themselves, whether the religion is as a Catholic, Jedi or just a belief in the way we should live our lives. Great stuff, hope to see more from you.

Huh...now I never thought of body art that way before. Maybe I'm missing out on something...;)

You have a fresh approach to lyrics; very thought-provoking.

Nice work.

Good insight into the deep thoughts that precede a well-planned tattoo. I like the lines "waking the pain beneath / waiting to be illustrated". I believe our designs already exist, and are just waiting to be revealed. Part of the appeal of body mod is discovering what has been there inside us all along.

I love this poem! As a tattoo and piercing afficianado (sp?) I think it portrays the feelings behind wanting tattoos and piercing that are often misunderstood. It doesn't portray body art in a dark way but describes them as a sense of enlightenment and rebirth in a way. I love it! This has been added to my favorites!
