Hey, thanks for taking the time to let me know I suck,

without your review, I would have gone on being a writing schmuck.

You saved me from totally embarrassing myself on the literary stage,
from slopping down substandard words upon the previously-blank page.

What was I thinking, me, an amateur among prose?

How long I would have gone on flailing, God only knows.

I appreciate your taking the time to school little old me,

for without your words of wisdom, I'd had never seen

the error of my ways, the pathetic things I was doing wrong.

But now, thanks to you, all delusions of competence are long gone.

Imagine thinking poetry was all about feeling, not form,

but thank you for letting me know about the norms,

what's acceptable and what's not, in the poetry game.

For at last I see that I was never going to reach fortune and fame,

for that was my illusion, my one and only goal, not just fun.

I see that writing for fun is for losers, and that I'm surely one!
