The Monster

The Monster

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

My own worst enemy

"
Pacing, endlessly, figuratively, and mentally,

worried about the future, and what will come to be.

See hidden shadows from the corner of my eye.

The monster of self-doubt just out of sight, why

I'm feeling this way, I really couldn't say.

this game of self-destruction I'd rather not play.

I'm my own guarantee of failure, it's not helpful at all,

feel like the walls are closing in, and my back is against the wall.

I want to look ahead, and stand in the light once again,

but all I see are shadows, I'm far away from a win.
