![]() The WasteA Poem by Michael Stevens![]() A song about a self-centered guy!![]() ![]() Verse: There once was a man who blarped
around most days, took shortcuts through life--short-term
benefits that really paid off in leisure and easy wins--this
take-it-easy creed. Instead of enjoying the sunsets, he
was all about speed,
Pre-Chorus: which his ex didn't appreciate
nearly as much, thought they didn't have a real marriage,
as such.
Verse: And so he found himself alone, and
out in the cold, with no one to stand beside him, as
he got old. He started to think maybe slower
would have been better, but now it was too damn late--he
found himself a love debtor,
Pre-Chorus: owing time that he could never get
back, and cold sheets when in the sack.
Chorus: It was The Waste that didn't have
to be. If only he'd have thought less
about 'me, me, me!' The Waste caught up and passed,
winning the race. Now he's in the loser's circle,
with regret on his face!
Verse: I guess now he looks back with not
a little regret, on his being about as self-absorbed
as you can get. But it's too late, ain't no quick
fixes--that he's looking for. Premature lifeation caught up to
him, and slammed the door!
Repeat Pre-Chorus:
Repeat Chorus:
