Falling

Falling

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

THE day.

"

Towers of steel and glass came tumbling down,

left destruction and huge clouds of dust on the ground.

But, it took much more than lives that day,

it took our innocence and belief that everything would be okay.

It took our belief that we were safe and untouchable,

it ripped away the myth that an oceans' distance would protect, that the anvil

of hatred would fall elsewhere, that it couldn't happen here.

Made us slaves to the same paranoia and the same fear.

It stole our unshakable faith that good will triumph over bad intent,

the very message the terrorist-b******s wanted sent.

It forever changed the way in which we viewed the world around,

when our illusions, and those towers came falling down.
