Run

Run

A Poem by Chuck

I often dream that I am running
As fast as I can, and as far as I can
Relentlessly and never tiring
Nothing to hold me and no need to stay
            Completely Free.

Excited by the cold night air that fills my lungs
   until they nearly burst
Affectionately welcoming the obscurity of darkness
I am lost to others, but I can finally see
            I am free.

Bare feet on smooth concrete
My skin exposed, and chilled completely through
Finally feeling something
           Alive and free.

Always Running
With a delirious grin on my face
Forgetting everything

                             But the sun rises
                             And shadows have faces
                             My flesh begins to thaw
               Awake and defeated.
