Open Water

Open Water

A Poem by Chuck
"

"Most of us live lives that are not particularly extraordinary"

"

"Most of us live lives that are not particularly extraordinary"

We vanish in the crowd

And cease to exist in the sea of faces

As it swells up and swallows us whole

In spite of our struggle

To keep our heads above the crushing waves

The abyssal claim on life is much too strong

And its only a matter of time until we find ourselves

On the ocean floor

Pressure fills your ears

Forcing your eyes closed

A watery breath fills your lungs

While the sands wrap around you

Millions of tiny anchors fit to drown

The universe could care less if we ever existed

Happy to continue on with

Or without us

Drifting downstream

Never wondering

What if?
