Double Edged Sword

Double Edged Sword

A Poem by Molly

connection
distance
love
hate
happiness
 pain

why
must there always be a black
to the lovely shades of
white

the clean sheets that glow
with the morning light
and smell like spring.
the warmth from our bodies
as they cover us
lightly kissing our skin.

yet
they feel so cold,
a film of ice at night,
as i lie shivering
in the company of silence.

why
must i collect good things
like they are the pennies found
lucky side up
on those rare, unexpected occasions
when i understand theyre fleeting
worth.

isn't cherishing them good enough
to stop the black cats
from creeping up on me.

why must life be a double edged sword.

:) i like it. its true. what it said to me was that life has its good and bad and thats so true. well done. In the beginning the darkness of the poem's theme is felt, and I enjoyed thinking about how something like silence can be an entity that can accompany a person. towards the end I saw a bit of hope in collecting good things and it made me smile so I wrote this review :)

the hassle of existing by realizing the polarity of things in this world, dreadful and yet fascinating. this composition brought dread and fascination to me, reminding me we may just get along with the flowing current of time but we can also stay idle for a while and ponder all these things.

It's quiet, yet loud. It's eloquent, yet bold. It is peacefully written, yet implies the chaos we endure each day. In short, I love it. Very well done.
