Wasting Your Breath

Wasting Your Breath

A Poem by Molly Garnet

You don’t know how to love me

That’s okay, because I’m still trying to figure that one out as well

You don’t know what to say when I’m down

You don’t understand why you don’t make me happy

But I’m trying to make you understand that sometimes nothing can make me happy

You fell in love with the wrong person

But maybe it’s too late

And you want to be my 2 am

And it hurts you that I don’t call

And I’ll hurt you again

Because I won’t trust you

And I’ll love you with all of my heart

But I won’t trust you

How can you love someone like me

Someone as reckless and thoughtless as me

When you’re the most unwavering thing I’ve known

You say the wrong things

Because you’ll never get it

And I’m so happy that you’ll never feel this way

I just wish someone would get it

It’s okay

I know you love me

I may not feel it

But I know it

And I’m just grasping at that wink of hope

That this is just a phase

And one day I’ll be easy to love

And I won’t destroy innocent bystanders on my path to selfishness

Oh you’re so wonderful

Why are you even wasting your breath

Trying to save a soul like mine?

Thank you so much!
I tell people love is unfair. Need two people wanting the same things at the same time. Hard to do.

The above line is true too often in life. I did like the closure. Good to finish the poem with a question. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
