I fell in love with you around 4 amA Poem by Molly GarnetI fell in love with you around
four am When I couldn’t stop tossing and
turning And even in your sleep You stroked my hair until I could
breathe again I fell in love with you around
seven thirty When you pretended to be angry Or maybe you weren’t pretending Because I steal the blankets and take
up the whole bed But then you laughed and kissed
me And I abandoned class Because the thought of leaving
your arms was too much I fell in love with you around
noon When I realized that there was a
knot in my stomach Because I already missed you I fell in love with you around
six pm On the pavement in no make-up and
sneakers When you ran much slower than
your usual pace So I could keep up I fell in love with you around
ten o’ clock When you saw the scars on my
thighs And finally understood that I’m a
hurricane And you still told me I was
beautiful I fell in love with you around
midnight When we both desperately needed
sleep But didn’t want to be the first
to admit it So we stayed up all night talking Well, I talked most of the time You listened I fell in love with your
selflessness I fell in love with your
everything I fell in love with you in the
bits and pieces of the day That you didn’t realize I was
watching That you didn’t realize I noticed. You try and act so logical and
intellectual But I swear I saw a glisten in
your eye When I had to leave last night And I fell in love right then and
there Just like I’m falling in love
now. © 2014 Molly Garnet |
