New York CityA Poem by Molly GarnetI want to destroy everything gorgeous I want to throw black paint on a
Picasso Slam my bloody fingers on a piano
and call it Mozart I want to stain the white keys red I want to slur every word Edgar
Allan Poe ever wrote I want to tear a Lilly dress
apart, thread by thread And burn a hundred thousand
unpublished manuscripts Each one, beautiful and profound,
filling my lungs with smoke I want to watch the death of
music And the world to be deafened with
silence I want a monsoon to destroy New
York City San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami I want it all gone I want to tell everyone that
history is a myth And none of it matters Picasso didn’t idolize Picasso Mozart was just Mozart Even my beloved Edgar Allan Poe
was insignificant Music is only beautiful until
it’s over And no one actually likes New
York City. © 2013 Molly GarnetReviews
