Talking Nonsense With YouA Poem by Molly GarnetI could stay up all night And whisper nonsense with you We’ll talk about fame and money and power And all sorts of things we’ll never see We’ll talk about our families and our freedom And how there are some things worth fighting for Then I’ll mention a song And you’ll claim it’s your favorite And I’ll blush because we have something in common I live for this nonsense It’s shallow and meaningful at the same time And I love how you don’t fall asleep until late On nights when we talk Because I stay up too Just to talk to you It’s worth the red eyes And that extra cup of coffee In the morning Because you make me happier than you know And I’ve been in love once, And this isn’t it But it’s a beautiful infatuation Maybe it’s the idea of you Or maybe it’s actually you But for now, that’s a minor detail And I love our nonsensical talks About nothing at all One of us will fall asleep Probably you And I’ll over think it And imagine how much you must hate me But that’s nonsense too Just like everything about us Maybe we’ll grow up And you won’t be a silly infatuation anymore But I don’t need that quite yet I’m perfectly fine Talking nonsense with you.
