When an obese plumber Needs time to relax From a long day of rescuing damsels Atop poorly constructed girders Held captive by an overblown gorilla Or prying princesses out of The clutches of slimy dragons Who breathe flaming corncobs, Then gather the gang Of old foes and dear friends Around the shed out back While we gas up the rusting hunks Of metal and rubber For another lap around The kaleidoscopic locales Known as the Mushroom Kingdom. The sweet sensation of burning asphalt Mixed with empty turtle shells and dropped banana peels Under the glare of the midday sun With only the breeze of sheer speed To wipe the sweat from the furled brow As both hands clench the rattling wheel And a brief prayer is muttered Beneath gritted teeth and bristling moustache That the old girl holds together. The checkered flag within reach Along with the dream of raising the golden cup On the alabaster steps of the palace, But both are thrown in jeopardy When a quick glance in the rearview mirror Predicts the inevitable crash Of the dreaded blue shell Protruding with silver spikes About to slash into the back tires Allowing the green dinosaur To slingshot past. Sticking out his strawberry tongue, In contempt of the years Spent burdened by the weight Of that fat dego Who can only watch As the herd rushes past And the stink of failure Is upon him for the first time. © 2009 Mohl083 |
