It’s like it was, but everything’s different
The cowboy in the black hat
At the pool hall downtown told me
My whole life was ahead of me,
But then I just happened to blink.
Poetry came easier then
I’d just sit down and it’d come out
It’s easier to write about feelings
When you haven’t experienced them
And all the facts don’t get in the way.
To reclaim innocence
That wasn’t lost through corruption or lust
But the simple act of growing up
And the magic of uncertainty
Was how we lived.
“Keep on Rocking in the Free World”
The long forgotten anthem
Echoes in my headphones.
It’s almost 3 in the morning
And it’s all I got
To remember the things
I told myself couldn’t be forgotten.
Her toes were chubby and
Her skin was freckled.
I would have given her anything,
Followed her anywhere…
Hell, I still would.
