Hey Jealousy

Hey Jealousy

I steal another cigarette from Andy

Then leave just as quickly.

His happiness

Reflects my isolation.

The world is his oyster

My pearl is the mucus

I hack up in the shower

Every morning.

The girl I’ve never met,

But feel I’ve known

Since the dawn of time

Flaunts her latest victory.

Laurels hang around

Her slender, perfect neck.

I throw my arm

Over the Captain’s shoulder

As we sail across

The horizon of sobriety.

I tuck the babies

Into their cribs.

As I turn out the lights

And sing them gentle lullabies

Softly,

I curse their names

For having everything

I ever wanted.

Greasy workers

In stained denim overalls

Punch clocks at five.

Drive home to their trailers

And f**k prom queens.

I lay down

On a*s scented sheets

Dreaming of a life

Outside of a fishbowl.
