And Day Brought Back My NightA Poem by Mohl083my coffee buzz is wearing off
The bathroom light’s on, I took a piss earlier And forgot to turn it off Before I left. Street lamps Peer through my blinds As a few stray beams Crawl across the wall. Four quick beeps And the yellow alarm Turns Red. No more cigarettes from Andy. I fall asleep with the TV on again, It makes me feel like someone else Is talking to me And I’m too important To pay attention. I’m back in the room, The one where I always go. A non-descript gray area With two chairs and a bed. The white owl tells me to be patient All will be revealed. You come through the door That wasn’t there until now. Your smile illuminates The Death Coated Mausoleum. How long do we have? Minutes, Years, Eternity? Hard to tell Where the constraints Of science and math Have no jurisdiction. Either way, kiss me quick At least let me have that. The lovers Resting in a timeless void Free of schedules and meetings All that exists Is the other. A perfect rendition Of everything good Within the coarse flesh. Soon enough The alarm starts beeping, And the owl Impatiently stamps his foot. Go, you tell me You’ll be back soon enough. All the more reason To sneak in a nap While Apollo laughs Atop his mighty chariot. His horses can only run so long Before they tire And must sleep. Yes, sleep.
