Wandering Shadow

Wandering Shadow

A Poem by modesty blaise

I passed by a church today

I wanted to pray to forget my fears,

But it was locked.

I fed the pigeons in a square

They were strutting at my feet,

But they flew into the sky.

I saw the barren mountains

Which look magnificent during the summer,

But it’s winter now.

I roamed through the past in an old town

Among the stone paved streets and buildings,

But they were crumbling.

I felt the warmth of someone

Holding me in his arms forever,

But it was a dream.

I danced at night among ghastly trees

And only the falling snow reminded me

I was alive once.
