The Slippery Pedestal

Dodge the thrown stones

The Slippery Pedestal

There was this teacher-
he used to get his bag of blow
Some of his students
made lots of money because their sleds
played in his snow
He couldn’t reach them
They refused his teachings
Now he’s a prophet without followers
he has lost his way

There was this mother-
every night she placed a price tag
around her neck
One of her kids saw her
That was the day she lost the rest of her
children’s respect
Now she’s a wounded sparrow
A momma bird who’s chicks don’t want her
around

There was this doctor-
He cared too much about the old
and the sick
After hearing the sad stories and pleading
euthanasia seem to do the trick
After so much outrage, scorn and backlash
his practice didn’t last
Hands that used to heal now grip
metal bars

Failings are a part of life
There are shades of gray not just black
and white
After penance, people deserve the chance
To make things right
