Frozen TearsA Poem by Jacqueline
Frozen Tears I was sent to the store Winter’s hand punishing my little Back Little stings of ice attacked my Vulnerable face I trudged on as I had to do I reached the small building The walking aimless in tiny worlds Of their own A bonfire on the corner had men Standing in a circle A familiar brown bottle passed all Around Inside, the store is a haven The warm air making me forget My worries I pass shelves of canned fruit And loves of bread My stomach rumbles- I’m tempted to swipe something to Ease my hunger but think better of it I didn’t need more trouble in my Life The freezer holds what I’m sent to retrieve I hate my daily routine Wrapping gloved hands around A six pack of beer I shuffle to the counter with a note and money- Always an extra dollar The woman looks at me with squinted eyes “You sure you’re not gonna drink this?” “No ma’am, I never will” I always answer Back home he sits in his chair complaining Every living thing in the house is useless Or stupid “It took you long enough!” I receive After he snatches the brown bag from My hands I sit in the corner of the room and pretend To be his source of love © 2008 JacquelineReviews
