Insomnia

Insomnia

A Poem by Melekije

As tired as my body is,

My eyes beg for closure,

And my mind continues to wonder.

I lie down and stare at the dark ceiling,

With my arm under the cold pillow,

Comfort seems so distant at this moment.

And I’m unaware of what to think.

So many things,

So many thoughts process at once,

There is no definite thought that leaks through.

What was done yesterday,

What happened today,

What will become of tomorrow;

Weaken the neurons that circulate in the highway of my brain.

My stomach aches,

And my body begs to be numb,

Sleepless night,

Why must you do this to me?

Why must you laugh at my heavy eyes?

When all I ask is for peaceful slumber.
