Archangel.

Archangel.

A Story by Melekije

What do you think you'd do if you've met the angel of darkness face to face? Have you ever seen her? I mean you would never think that any wrong doing would come from such a beautiful creature; her wings are magnificent and flutter with purity and grace, her halo gleaming so bright it blinds those that stand in her light.
Light; brightness, radiating from every swift step she takes. Poised. How did I get to meet such a heavenly being that has been walking among us this entire time? Her disguise was and still is well kept, I never would have had the thought.
Everyday I see this smile that just opens the gates to heaven, but I've found out that its not heaven the gates are opening for. See, truth be told, she is an angel but not the one I'd ever want anyone else to meet. There is a reason why I ask if you've seen the angel of darkness, in behalf that when god isn't looking her light begins to dim.
It was her duty to send love and happiness to those that walk among us as despondent human beings, however all the years of gracing and shedding light on those who needed it, their dimness, as a result kept a hold on her once pure heart.
I saw her, saw when she decided to take her halo off and use it as an ashtray, when she thought no one was watching, her wings slummed down and laid lifelessly off her back. What was once gleaming, now gray and surrounded by black. Tears slowly running down to what seemed to look older face, yet no sound that she was crying.
Quiet, steady breathed, and head straight forward she gazed long and hard at the horizon. I've never seen a soul focus so hard into nothing. Did she have a soul? Was it nothing she was looking at? Or was she looking at everything, simply analyzing and questioning her purpose.
Part of me felt somber to observe such beauty wither away in moments, part of me wanted to leech onto that darkness that made her beauty fade so she can glow bright again. Part of me wanted to pray, but it was hope that made her like this.
I never told her that I witnessed purity at its lowest, I didn't want to bring the reality of the situation to the table because she tries so hard, and comes off effortlessly, to shed her light to those that need it. I felt like if i did, i'd only be reminding her how corrupt this world is when she is already well aware, it's already taken it's toll on her.
No one knows shes an angel, they take her grace for granted. Except for me.
I met the angel of darkness, she gazed long and hard into the horizon which was nothing less than a mirror.
