D-day.

D-day.

A Poem by Melekije

Surrounded by evergreens rather than the salty ocean breeze,

The sun has risen just where it fell on the other side of the bridge,

There was a storm conjuring but not within plain view

However in a mind that longs to bid adieu.

The sky has never looked so damn pretty,

Eyes wide waving goodbye to the sleepless city.

Wave a farewell to a world that no longer deserves to prosper,

Sleep not a wink embracing the freedom longing to be conquered.

In the passenger seat it is easier to see what has been missing,

The wind wrapping around scared skin seems so fitting,

My head out the window; hair dancing in the wind,

Ready to tell the world how bad I've been waiting to be unpinned.

Arms so strong since that world has been so heavy,

Eyes’ staring out so deep the glance is nearly deadly,

Is the lightning in my head starting to scare you?

Let the rumbling thoughts of thunder be my cue.

All the years of watching the sun set before I lay my head,

Now comes a sun rise to remind me what I've started.

Pushing smiles, saline, and hope has led me to this glorious day,

Only difference is this time I won’t let it slip away.
